From Control To Chaos: The French Moderns

French Moderns, Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950 places France in the centre of international modernism spanning  the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries.  Sixty sculptures and paintings are on loan from the renowned  Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York.  The French Moderns exhibition includes examples of all the important periods of art centered around Paris;  Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Fauvism, Cubism and Surrealism.

The theme of the exhibition documents the democratization of society as reflected in the demise of the absolute control of The Academy.  Works are curated in a chronology that depicts the dramatic shift in the social order as captured by the brush stroke; from the control of the great masters to the chaos daubs of the impressionists.  

Cezanne, Chagal,  Degas, Manet, Rodin are just some of the the artists represented in this not to be missed exhibition on now at the VAG!
